Upgrading wordpress in 3 easy and simple steps

New version of WordPress 2.6 Released. So it is time to upgrade your wordpress again. Upgrading wordpress typically means uploading new files to your hosting server. Everybody knows that uploading new files via FTP is pain and takes some time. Here, I will show you how you can upgrade your wordpress in 3 easy and simple steps. Before we start, make sure that your hosting support zip extension for php. Hostgator support it ;)

  1. Download latest version of wordpress, unzip it, browse to unzipped folder (wordpress), select all files and do new zip archive with your archiving utility. The new .zip archive will not include “wordpress” folder on it. Upload newly created .zip archive to your wordpress installed folder.
  2. Download Zip Extractor, unzip it and upload zipextractor.php to your wordpress installed folder.
  3. From your browser load http://www.yourblogurl.com/zipextractor.php and press “Extract”. Login to your wp-admin and follow upgrade instructions.

So that is it. Don’t forget to delete zipextractor.php.
